In a period of intense geopolitical realignments and while relations between Athens and Washington are at a historically high level, Greece entrusts the reins of its embassy in the USA to one of the most capable and experienced diplomats of the new generation.
The official commencement of his duties took place on Friday, January 16, 2026, when Mr. Alexandridis presented copies of his credentials to the Chief of Protocol of the State Department, Monica Crowley.

This move marks a new chapter for Greek representation at the heart of international developments. Born in Volos on September 15, 1969, Antonis Alexandridis carries with him a heavy academic and professional legacy. Son of the Volioti engineer George Alexandridis and Alexandra Kalliatzi from Skopelos, he distinguished himself early on for his acumen and diligence.
With studies at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Master of Laws degree from the renowned University of Cambridge, Mr. Alexandridis entered the Diplomatic Corps in 1997, beginning his journey at the Diplomatic Office of the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Theodore Pangalos.
The career of Antonis Alexandridis is characterized by his placement in "hot" posts. He served in New Delhi, at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU in Brussels, and served as Consul General in Marseille.
The placement of Mr. Alexandridis in Washington in 2026 is not accidental. With the Donald Trump administration at the helm of the USA, Athens needed a diplomat who knows how to build personal relationships and manage crises with composure.
The challenges are many: from defense cooperation and energy security to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue. The new ambassador, speaking four foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian) and having been honored with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix, possesses all the tools to worthily represent Greek interests.
For the Greek Omogenia (diaspora) in the USA, Antonis Alexandridis constitutes a promising choice. His experience from Marseille and the UAE shows a man who seeks contact with the people and is not limited to the four walls of the embassy. He is expected to be an "open-door" ambassador, strengthening Athens' ties with the powerful Greek community of America.
Antonis Alexandridis is not just a public servant, but a strategic analyst who understands Greece's position on the global map. His presence in Washington guarantees that the Greek voice will be heard clear and strong in the decision-making centers.
