Dear friends, We would like to invite you to the opening of the "Occupy Project", on Thursday, February 13th, 2020, 5:00-8:00 p.m., at our premises.
What you are going to see is different, in the sense that the curator, Greek artist herself, Eirini Linardaki, invited 28 artists (most of whom are locally based) to "occupy" with their works the administrative spaces of the Consulate General of Greece in New York. The common denominator of this project is the inspiration by Greek aesthetics, philosophy, myths, and ideas.
The project is like a mini-residency. For three months, beginning February 13th, 2020, this group of artists will take over the offices and other spaces. A personal dialogue has been created between artists and the people and spaces of the Consulate for more than a year. We are also demonstrating that people outside the art world, in this case, the Consulate and its staff, are willing to welcome artists in spaces not dedicated to exhibiting art. We hope that the dialogue and the resulting artworks and installations can bring a change in everyday life at the office.
The opening night, Thursday, February 13, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m., will include a special program of micro-events in the offices of the Consulate:
- Poetry readings curated by and with Effie Pasagiannis, William Considine, and George Wallace.
- Performance, Stargazer by hd.kepler.
- Musical program, From Smyrna to New York, by Rafaela Lopez.
We look forward to welcoming you at the opening reception.
