“I’m an American,” the Greek-American supermarket and energy mogul who also owns the WABC radio station told the New York Post. “I came here at 6 months old,” he added jokingly, “I can be president of Greece, but I can’t be president of the United States.”
And then, John Catsimatidis confirmed, “I got a call from the third-largest political party [in Greece] that wants to nominate me to be president of Greece.” He quipped, “I’m honored, but I’m busy enough in New York!”
The Post added, “we reported last month that the chairmen of the Republican Party chapters in all five boroughs said they’d choose Catsimatidis as the GOP candidate if the legally embattled Mayor Eric Adams is ousted and the city holds a special election ahead of the regularly scheduled election next year.”
“This week, Cats was invited by Donald Trump to watch the Election Day returns at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL, “but the billionaire was busy broadcasting from WABC radio till 6 AM” the Post reported. “I was at WABC doing a national broadcast… We had 100 people in studio all night long” Catsimatidis said.
Regarding his mayoral run, Gristedes and Red Apple mogul John Catsimatidis said: “I am digesting it . . . I want New York City to do well . . . We just want to have the city make a comeback.”
And added frankly: “You know what I’m most scared of? I might win.”
