The voting process of Greek-Americans from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania was completed successfully at the Consulate General of Greece in New York at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. It was a historic day as it was the first time that Greeks abroad could vote from their place of residence.
The Consul General of Greece in New York, Dinos Konstantinou, confirmed yesterday that the whole process went smoothly and normally as all the members of the election committee, trustees and delegates were in their places.
The Consulate General in New York was attended by 359 of the 506 registered voters who also came from New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
At the start of the process, Consul Dimitrios Papageorgiou verified the registration of voters who, despite the rain, arrived early. Notably, many of the voters were young.
A total of 1,680 expatriates in the US were eligible to participate in this process, voting at the Greek Embassy in Washington DC and at 8 Consulates General - New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Tampa, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
According to a report on Greek television, Greeks abroad were excited and at the same time very happy to be able, for the first time, to participate in Greek elections from their place of residence.
