In today’s New York Post founded in 1801 by American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.
New York - Sunday June 5th and the largest Hellenic Independence Day parade in the world. Let’s gather together on 5th Avenue for a common purpose to celebrate an Independence that was international in scope and that had an affect not only what became Hellas/Greece but also internationally and in particular in America where it helped fuel rhetorically the American abolitionist movement and later cross generationally the American women's suffrage movement .
In this year’s parade we will be celebrating the belated Bicentennial of Greek Independence in 1821, the 100 Year Anniversary of the GOA, the 100th Year Anniversary of AHEPA, Commemorating the 100 Year Anniversary of the Burning of Smyrna (1922) the last major phase in the 30 year (1894-1924) Christian (Greek/Armenian/Assyrian) genocide in the late Ottoman period that took approx. 3.2 million innocent civilian lives, and the belated 2500 Year Anniversary of the Battles of Thermopylae/ Salamis and Plataea.
