The Consul General of New York had the pleasure to host the Actor, Music composer & Theatre Director Fotini Baxevani, writer Gianni Skaragas, director Stavros Litinas, as well as the Director of the Greek Cultural Center of New York & Representatives of Federation of Dodecanese.
The Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr. Dinos Konstantinou, who introduced the participants of the performance to the journalists, stressed that, especially for the expatriate Greek community, culture is a vehicle which strengthens the ties of Greeks abroad with the motherland Greece. Also, he underlined that he considers culture as a very important issue for the preservation of ties - especially of the younger generations - with Greece as an antidote to the risk of assimilation, which is very high especially in the USA.
He also stressed that it is extremely important to present theatrical works such as "The Lady of Ro" about an emblematic figure of Greece, a moving and nationally significant story for which he is sure that it will have a great impact on the Greek-American and also on the wider American philhellenes.
The actors of the theatrical performance explained that it is not just a simple narrative about the history or the biography of the "Lady of Ro", but it consists a starting point, and a mean for inspiration as well as a recording of the overall Greek experience, a psychological journey with a strong emotional charge. A theatrical performance that touches all ages and genders and relates more broadly to the multi-layered human experience and faith in humanity.
