The story behind "Asteromata"
"Asteromata, with music and lyrics by Arcade, is an ethnic song that speaks of refugee and uprooting. In fact, the term "asteromata" is a traditional term used in Smyrna to describe women with bright and impressive eyes.
What does "tzivaeri" mean? Many of us have sung it, few know it. The word comes from the Turkish cevahir, which means gemstone, precious gem. Metaphorically, when we say to someone "my jivaeri", we mean "my treasure".
The message of the song is particularly resonant, since it speaks of the loss of the homeland and the search for a better life. Klavdia drew her inspiration from the history of Pontic Hellenism, highlighting the genocide and the uprooting of the Pontians.
The composition is written by Arcade and Klavdia and lyrics by Arcade.
