The Greek basketball star, apart from sports, has expanded his professional activities in companies from energy drinks, to vineyards and wineries. Now, Giannis Antetokounmpo's new company, Improbable Media, is making its first co-production of a motion picture, with a strong Greek element.
It is a heist comedy starring international and Greek actors, among them Klelia Andriolatou - known from the Maestro series of Christoforos Papakaliatis - Julia Fox, Maria Kavoyianni, Makis Papadimitriou, Ricardo Scamarcio and director Christopher Andre Marks (who directed the documentary King Otto, with the life of coach Otto Rehhagel).
As announced by the international film production studio Studio Galazio, which collaborates with Giannis Antetokounmpo's company, the shooting of their first film, a comedy that focuses on a heist that takes place in Mykonos, has been completed.
The film follows the adventures of an eccentric group of noble thieves, who rob arrogant tourists who destroy the island every summer.
The cast consists of international and Greek actors, starring the up-and-coming Klelia Andriolatou (Netflix's Maestro in Blue), and Ricardo Scamarcio (John Wick 2), Andrew Georgiadis, Vito Schnabel (The Trainer) and Julia Fox (Uncut Gems) in key roles. Also participating: Panos Koronis (The Lost Daughter), Makis Papadimitriou (Suntan), George Pyrpasopoulos (Crimes of the Future), Maria Kavoyianni (Maestro in Blue), Alan Assad (Black Mirror) and Christos Passalis (Dogtooth).
Studio Galazio is a newly established production agency focusing on the creation and development of films and TV series with a strong Greek element and aiming at international distribution.
For the creation of the film in Mykonos, Studio GALAZIO collaborated with the production companies Improbable Media of Giannis Antetokounmpo - this is Antetokounmpo's first entry into film production - and the Greek BLONDE S.A. (Tehran). The film is also produced by Ginevra Tamberi (Amazon MGM Studios), Donna Bloom (HBO Max's Julia) and Raphael Benoliel (Netflix's Emily in Paris).
Studio Galazio CEO Christopher André Marks, who is also the film's director, makes his feature film directorial debut, with an original script of his own.
He states: "It is a great honor to work on this film with such a brilliant cast, consisting of Greek and internationally acclaimed talented actors but also with an excellent crew of great professionals in the field. This is our first major venture in Greece and I feel grateful and absolutely pleased for the completion of filming."
The news was officially announced by Giannis Antetokounmpo, with a post on Instagram:
"Guys, how much I love Mykonos you know.... I am very excited to officially announce that my production company, improbablemedia, has partnered with studiogalazio to produce my first feature film as a producer.... MYKONOS, the Movie, written and directed by Christopher André Marks, is coming soon...", the NBA star said in an Instagram story.
Footage from the shooting on the island, presented by Mykonos Live Tv, shows Klelia Andriolatou, in a bikini, in the role of a waitress, while the clip also features Julia Fox, as well as Giannis Antetokounmpo and his wife, Maria, walking in the alleys of Mykonos.
