Kim Kardashian calls on U.S. to urge Turkey to stop sending arms, fighters to Azerbaijan

Celebrity and businesswoman Kim Kardashian West called on the United States on Monday to warn Turkey to stop sending arms and fighters to Azerbaijan after clashes erupted in disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

"Call upon Baku to cease all offensive uses of force, cut off all US military aid to #Azerbaijan being used against Armenians & warn #Turkey to stop sending arms & fighters to Baku," she said.

Kardashian West, who is of Armenian descent, condemned Azerbaijan over fighting with Armenian forces and criticised Turkey’s involvement, accusing Ankara of sending arms and fighters to help the Azeris.

She also said that “Armenia has been the victim of unprovoked attacks by Azerbaijan,” saying that the attacks are accompanied by a “predictable disinformation campaign.”

Kardashian West received a chain of criticism from Turkish Twitter users. Thousands of Turks took to Twitter to blast her remarks, as many of them posted Turkish and Azeri flags as a comment.

"You will see the power of Turks," one user said.

Meanwhile, prominent Turkish anchorwoman Ece Üner also took an aim at Kardashian West.

"Kardashian has a well-known great source that she is used to showing the cameras. Did she refer to the same source while she was saying these words and making this statement?" Üner said, indicating that Kardashian West was "talking out of her ass".

Fighting broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Sunday morning around the region of Nagorno-Karabakh which lies 50 kilometres from the Armenian border. Local soldiers backed by Armenia also occupy some Azerbaijani territory outside the region.

The deadliest fighting in years between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out in the northwestern Tovuz border region in July, leaving 16 people from both sides dead.
