
Greece was named one of the World’s Best Places to Retire in 2023, according to International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index.
Boasting a 40 year old history, International Living is a travel agency and magazine providing a range of information about global travel, living, retiring, investing, and real estate.
Running for a 32nd consecutive year, the magazine’s Annual Global Retirement Index is compiled by a set of trusted opinions and real-life experiences offering perspective and guidance about the best retirement havens in the world.
This year’s index, saw Greece winning the World’s 7th Best Place to Retire in 2023 position, with an average score of 76.8.
According to writer Lynn Roulo, who has chosen Greece as her home base since 2013, the Mediterranean country’s hospitality extents to a particular “respect and inclusion of elderly people”.
Furthermore, Roulo praises Greece’s high-quality medical care for a “fraction of the cost in the U.S.” as she notes, with medical tourism fast becoming a growing sector of the Greek economy.
The writer also underlines the country’s low cost of living, its food-centered culture and good overall climate but gives a note of caution regarding Greece’s bureaucracy when it comes to issues live visa issuing and residence options.
Portugal, got the top spot in International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index with an average score of 87.4. Rounding up the top 5, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador and Costa Rica follow.
