New molecular lab to process coronavirus samples at Kozani Hospital

A state-of-the art laboratory for molecular biology opened on Wednesday at the Mamatsio Hospital of Kozani, northern Greece, that will serve five hospitals in western Macedonia.
The lab will be able to collect up to 100 samples for coronavirus testing per day, and to present the results in less than 12 hours.

Housed in a separate space within the hospital, the lab will also provide test analyses for other illnesses as well, Mamatsio director Stergios Ganatsios told Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
The analysis machine cost the Region of West Macedonia 54,000 euros and is operated by four molecular biologists, hired recently on fast-track procedures. It is expected to help facilitate speedy diagnosis in an area of Greece with "a heavy epidemiological load," as authorities have said recently.
