MEPs visiting Cyprus and Greece as part of spyware inquiry

A delegation of MEPs from European Parliament’s Inquiry Committee on Pegasus is expected in Nicosia and Athens this week as part of an ongoing inquiry into the use of spyware against politicians and journalists.

According to a press release, the delegation is in Nicosia on Tuesday and Wednesday where its members will meet with government officials, members of the House of Representatives, legal experts, NGO representatives and journalists.

In Greece from Wednesday through Friday, the MEPs will speak with members of Parliament’s special inquiry committee on the wiretapping of the phones of PASOK chief Nikos Androulakis and journalist Thanasis Koukakis, and will also meet with Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis and other government officials, as well as with journalists, data protection authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders.

The visit will conclude with a press conference on Friday at the European Parliament Liaison Office in Athens.
