At the emotional heart of the service was his wife, Katerina Kokota, who remained his steadfast anchor throughout his entire hospital stay. With remarkable grace and composure, she delivered a touching eulogy that moved everyone present and highlighted the unbreakable bond the couple shared.
"The Soul I Fell in Love With Is Still With Us"

Standing before her husband’s casket, Katerina described the inner calm she sought and found before leaving home for the church, offering a message of spiritual continuity, enduring faith, and strength:
"Before leaving home, I asked him to give me the strength not to collapse. And I feel it. I feel a sense of peace. Inside here lies the body I knew. But the soul I loved, fell in love with, and who is half my life—both literally and metaphorically—is still with us."
She spoke with heartfelt gratitude about their only daughter, the fruit of their shared journey, noting that their child remains the greatest gift Dimitris left behind:
"I thank him for leaving me our child, and for the blessing that out of all the women in the world, I was the lucky one to stand by his side and be happy. I know he will always be with us, watching over us. Thank you all for being here today."
The past two and a half years were a continuous and exhausting ordeal against severe medical complications for the Kokotas family. Throughout this challenging period, Katerina maintained an exemplary stance of discretion—protecting her family’s privacy while always addressing the public and media with politeness, honesty, and gratitude for their ongoing prayers.

Speaking to the press shortly after Dimitris passed away, she shed light on his daily fight in the ICU. Despite the severe toll on his body, she shared that Dimitris remained responsive to the love and encouragement around him:
"He tried hard to recover, but his body was deeply exhausted. Unfortunately, he could not overcome this final infection. Dimitris understood; he had feelings and reacted. He followed instructions with whatever strength he had left. I would talk to him, give him ideas, ask him to try. I told him to play the piano, and he would move his fingers, mimicking the motion as best as he could. I truly believed he was slowly coming back to us."
"When You Love, the Word 'Sacrifice' Does Not Exist"
Beyond the grief, Katerina Kokota’s steadfast dedication has become an inspiring example of loyalty, marital commitment, and unconditional devotion. Her daily visits to the ICU were never viewed by her as a burden or an extraordinary feat, but rather as an obvious, natural expression of love.
As she explained, standing by a partner during life’s most severe trials is not a martyrdom, but a deliberate and joyful act of commitment:
"I could not even imagine not being there every single day. It was the only hour I could see him. Whatever else came up—whether it concerned our child or another obligation—it was rescheduled to another hour or another day so I could make the visiting hours. I did not exceed my limits. I simply did what was natural to me. For me, when you truly love someone, the word 'sacrifice' does not exist."

Concluding her reflections, she shared an appeal for greater societal empathy, drawing inspiration from the warmth, gentleness, and humility that characterized Dimitris Kokotas throughout his life:
"If we could all become a little more like Dimitris—to be polite, to smile, to forgive—perhaps we would not live in the jungle we find ourselves in today."
Dimitris Kokotas leaves behind a memorable musical repertoire that defined an era of Greek pop-folk music, but above all, he leaves the enduring legacy of a gentle soul who was honored until the very end with boundless love and respect.
