As dawn breaks tomorrow over the Saronic Gulf, the world will witness a moment where history comes full circle. In the very waters where the fate of Western civilization was once decided, the arrival of the frigate "Kimon" (F-601)—the first of the ultra-modern Belh@rra (FDI HN) digital frigates—marks the Hellenic Navy's official entry into an era of absolute naval supremacy.

This is not merely the addition of a new ship to the fleet; it is a profound restoration of balance in the Eastern Mediterranean. The welcoming ceremony, meticulously planned by the Hellenic Navy General Staff, will see the past hand over the torch to the future in a spectacle that bridges 2,500 years of maritime glory.
The choice of the name "Kimon" for the lead ship of this new class is deeply symbolic. The vessel is named after Kimon the Athenian (510 – 450 BC), a legendary strategist and statesman, son of Miltiades (the victor of Marathon).
Kimon was the architect of the Athenian maritime empire. He was the strategist who led the Greek fleet to unprecedented triumphs against the Persians, most notably at the Battle of the Eurymedon, where he destroyed the Persian fleet in a single day.
The phrase "Even in death, he conquered" (Και νεκρός ενίκα) is forever linked to his name. During the siege of Citium in Cyprus, Kimon died, but he ordered his death to be kept secret. The Greeks, believing their commander was still leading them, achieved a brilliant victory. Today, his name returns to the sea to declare that Greece remains a victor even in the most challenging times.
Vice Admiral Dimitrios - Eleftherios Kataras, Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, has sent the first naval signal to the frigate, setting the tone for the day. As "Kimon" sails toward the Salamis Naval Base, it will be escorted by a convoy of six navy vessels, but the true stars of the welcome will be two living legends:
The Battleship "Georgios Averof": The undefeated "Ship of Freedom" that liberated the Aegean during the Balkan Wars is sailing out once again to salute its worthy successor.
The Trireme "Olympias": A faithful reconstruction of the ancient Athenian warship that dominated antiquity, reminding us that naval excellence is written in the Greek DNA.
The sight of a 5th-century BC trireme alongside a 21st-century digital frigate is the ultimate symbol: Greece is modernizing and evolving, but its sovereignty over the sea remains non-negotiable.
Why the Frigate "Kimon" Changes the Aegean Landscape
The "Kimon" is the world’s first "digital" frigate, designed to neutralize future threats ranging from swarms of drones to hypersonic missiles.
The Aegean "Umbrella": Aster 30 Missiles
Equipped with Aster 30 missiles, the frigate can intercept any enemy aircraft or missile at distances exceeding 100 kilometers. This creates an impenetrable "No-Fly Zone" over entire island complexes.
The "Eye" that Sees Everything: SeaFire Radar
The SeaFire radar is the heart of the ship. Unlike older rotating radars, this is a fixed, fully digital active electronically scanned array (AESA). It can simultaneously track hundreds of targets, including those with stealth characteristics.
Equipped with the Captas-4 sonar system, the "Kimon" is considered the world's premier anti-submarine warfare (ASW) platform. Enemy submarines will no longer find refuge in the deep waters of the Aegean.
Just as the ancient strategist Kimon secured the freedom of the Greek world, the modern frigate "Kimon" arrives to guarantee peace through strength. Tomorrow’s welcome in the Saronic Gulf is not just a parade; it is a promise that the Greek flag will continue to fly proudly across every corner of the Aegean, backed by the pinnacle of global technology.
