The first load of humanitarian aid departing from Greece for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria will depart by ship on Wednesday, announced the Greek Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Andreas Katsaniotis.

According to the aid collection plan, goods donated in Thessaloniki by regional authorities, municipalities, churches, schools and organizations in Thessaly and northern Greece will be transported by road to earthquake-afflicted areas in Turkey and Syria, while items donated from any other regions in the country will be collected in Athens and transported by ship.

The boxes collected in the Attica region has already filled 160 trucks, Katsaniotis said, adding that the public’s response to the call for aid is “immense.”

The aid includes primarily clothing, beds and blankets, pharmaceuticals, tents and long-shelf-life foods.

The full catalogue of requested aid is available through the webpage of the foreign ministry.
