President Katerina Sakellaropoulou issued the Presidential Decree dissolving parliament and officially calling for elections on June 25. The decree, co-signed by caretaker Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas, was posted on the parliament's announcements board by the Parliament Guard.

The Presidential Decree that dissolves the parliament of May 21 and officially calls for repeat general elections on June 25 was issued late this afternoon, Monday.

It also sets the time and date when the parliament that emerges from the June 25 runoff election will convene, this being 11:00 am on Monday, July 3.

This is only the second time that Greece has had a “two-day” parliament since the restoration of democracy in 1974, with the previous one being the result of the May 2012 elections that also failed to produce a government.
