A search and rescue operation for missing migrants and refugees by the Coast Guard is still ongoing today, Sunday, after the body of a woman and a child were recovered at sea southeast of Leros island following the capsizing of a boat carrying illegal migrants and refugees.
Authorities have discovered and rescued 41 migrants and refugees at a part of the southeastern Aegean island that was difficult to access. The migrants include infants, women, and men with mobility issues, all of whom were transported to the identification center on the island.
The search continues with three Coast Guard vessels and a Super Puma helicopter by sea, as well as police officers on land.
