US and Greece Conduct Joint Military Exercises Near Mount Olympus

A large-scale joint military exercise in the foothills of Mount Olympus took place on Wednesday between the aviation units from the armies of Greece and the United States.

This new Greek-American exercise took place only a few weeks after the landmark defense agreement between Athens and Washington came into force, which grants the American Army extensive access to Greek military bases.

The main bases that the US has shown particular interest in are those located in the cities of Larissa and Stefanovikio in Thessaly as well as Alexandroupolis in Thrace.

The operations, in which live fire was used, were observed by Charalambos Laloussis, the head of the Greek Army’s General Staff (GES) and Geoffrey Pyatt, the United States Ambassador to Greece.

”The US 3-17 CAV rotation demonstrates our commitment to Alliance with Greece and provides substantial proof of what Secretary Pompeo’s letter said to the Greek Prime Minister, that the U.S. is committed to Greece’s security, prosperity, and democracy,” Pyatt stated from the foothills of this most historic Greek mountain.
