The village of Fourna
The village of Fourna is a beautiful and historic settlement, with a rich history that goes back centuries and is located in the heart of Evritania, at an altitude of about 850 meters, surrounded by green mountains and forests.
Fourna has been associated with important events of the Greek Revolution of 1821, as it was a refuge for many fighters.
In addition, the area is distinguished for its traditional buildings, which testify to its architectural heritage. The old stone houses, with the wooden roofs and the narrow streets, create the feeling that our village travels back in time.
Fourna played a big role in the development of literature and arts, something that is reflected in the personality and spirituality of the locals.
The hieromonk, historiographer and painter, Dionysios of Fourna, also contributed to this, founding in 1734 a school of hagiography and letters, from which prominent personalities passed.
The natural beauty of the village is unparalleled. The surrounding fir forests, the crystal clear waters of the rivers and the picturesque slopes create a landscape that enchants.
The mountain "Karavi", which is located near the village, offers incredible routes for hiking while the path to the top of the mountain is quite popular with lovers of nature and outdoor activities, such as cycling and climbing.
In Fourna there is the Temple of Zoodochos Pigi, near the destroyed homonymous monastery and on the hill of Prophet Elias, with the homonymous church, there are important archaeological findings.
The surrounding area has rich flora and fauna, which is why it has been characterized as the 4th Territorial Region (i.e. fourth in area and importance forest area) nationwide. It is particularly fertile and produces many products such as chestnuts, walnuts, beans and fir honey.
Apart from the office of the Municipality of Karpenisi there is a Citizen Service Center (KEP), a Rural Infirmary, a Post Office-Postal Savings Bank, a Police Station, a Fire Brigade Unit, a Forestry Department, a Forestry-Agricultural Cooperative.
In Fourna there is also a Kindergarten, a One-seater Primary and High School with Lyceum Classes fully equipped with computers, a rich library and a state-of-the-art Natural Science laboratory.
After the viral post made by the locals, the interest was great and already, based on social criteria, two large families have been selected, one with six children and the other with four, which are expected, within the next few days, to relocate to the village.
