The list comprises 41 distinguished members from academia, technocratic circles, and former SYRIZA government officials, signaling a strategic push toward policy-making grounded in knowledge and a deep understanding of contemporary challenges.
Strategic Planning Supported by Scientific Expertise
In a social media post, Mr. Tsipras expressed his honor in announcing this "exceptional team" of scientists with top-tier CVs and achievements that "adorn the Greece of knowledge." The unifying factor, he noted, is the shared conviction that improving the country can only be achieved through an in-depth understanding of current issues. He emphasized the need to move beyond mere aspiration to action based on the "pessimism of knowledge" to chart a future course. The Institute intends to function as a think tank focused on social progress and enhancing the lives of the many, rather than serving as a political facade.
Composition Highlights: Bridging Academia and Policy
The composition of the Scientific Council reflects a strong commitment to interdisciplinarity. It includes academics specializing in diverse fields such as Political Science and Law (Constitutional Law, International Relations), Economics and Sustainable Development (with the participation of former Finance Minister George Chouliarakis), Technology and AI, and Social Sciences (History, Gender Studies, Communication). The inclusion of active international researchers (from institutions like Harvard, UCL, Amsterdam) underscores the drive to integrate international expertise into the Greek political discourse.
This initiative represents a clear effort to establish a body for evidence-based policy formulation, essential in times of complex geopolitical and domestic issues. The Council is tasked with providing the critical analysis required for a progressive vision, acknowledging that solutions demand thorough examination beyond simple slogans. This move positions the Tsipras Institute as a proactive contributor to policy debate, emphasizing the need for informed guidance in shaping the progressive political future.
