According to the Fire Department, the two men, aged 50 and 53, were skippers on yachts. They lit the fire at the Pigi beach and were fined 2,250 euros each prior to being led before a prosecutor.
Greece forbids the lighting of fires outdoors from May 1 to October 31 annually, due to the threat of fire.
The men, aged 50 and 53, were skippers of yachts and were fined €2,250 each by the Fire Department before being brought before a prosecutor.
Although the men had extinguished the fire themselves, they were initially charged for violating Greece’s strict fire ban, which is in effect from May 1 to October 31 each year due to the high risk of wildfires.
The prosecutor later acquitted them, acknowledging their efforts to put out the fire.
