On Thursday 4 March 2021, the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, in Southampton Long Island, a pioneering and unique event for the public health took place.
On Father Alexander Karloutsos’ initiative- Vicar General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and Special Assistant to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, also known as Father Alex- and with the collaboration of the Stony Brook University of Long Island, 1000 people were vaccinated with the vaccine against Covid-19. It was a remarkable act of Father Alex that was addressed to the whole American community that is suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic. In the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons, American citizens of different religions and ethnic groups were vaccinated making it evident that the Greek Orthodox Church stands by the side of all people despite religion and ethnicity and that is contributing to the battle against Covid-19 and the protection of the public health.
