Blue Homeland Theorist: Greece has a spoiled and irreconcilable attitude
He also claimed Greece is “spoiled” and violates Turkish “rights” in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking to Kemalist newspaper Sözcü, Gürdeniz said that dialogue with Greece does not make sense and that what matters is the defense of Turkey’s so-called rights.
“The invitation to Greece, despite its spoiled and irreconcilable attitude, has no meaning,” he said.
“To date, Greece has been using exploratory talks as a vehicle to enforce its positions in Turkey. There is something clear: Greece and EU leaders want to push Turkey into Anatolia,” he continued.
“Turkey is geopolitically, politically and economically obliged to protect its rights and interests in the Aegean and the Mediterranean,” Gürdeniz said.
He himself, interpreting with his reasoning the recent statements by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis about Greece’s sovereign right to expand to 12 nautical miles, reiterated that he does not expect a result in exploratory contacts.
“If we take into account the statement made last week by the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, when he said that ‘if Turkey wants to become a member of the EU it must regress in the Aegean,’ it is better understood why I do not expect anything from the exploratory talks,” he said.
“Greece is asking us to leave our rights to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean,” he added.
Gürdeniz in 2006 first spoke of the “Blue Homeland,” which is Turkey’s failed attempt to become a naval superpower in the region and to steal Greek islands and maritime space.
