ATHENS – In a move that signals a new era of "self-contained" Greek diplomacy, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has asserted that Greece requires no outside mediators to manage its relationship with Turkey. This bold stance comes as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, officially confirmed that a high-level presidential visit to Athens is imminent.

During a recent interview with SKAI TV, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed reports of potential third-party intervention in Greek-Turkish affairs. He was categorical in his response, stating that the bilateral relationship between Athens and Ankara should remain direct and unmediated.
"We do not seek, nor do we need, third-party mediators or 'arbitrators' for our differences with Turkey," the Prime Minister declared. While acknowledging the frequent communication between Donald Trump and Turkish leadership, Mitsotakis emphasized that the Greece-U.S. strategic alliance is at its historical peak, providing Greece with the confidence to handle regional issues through international law and direct dialogue.
Presidential Visit Confirmed: "The President is Coming". The diplomatic landscape in Athens was further charged by a significant announcement from Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle. Speaking during the Greek launch of the documentary “Melania,” Guilfoyle moved the prospect of a state visit from rumor to reality.
"I know the President is coming, and I am truly looking forward to both of them [Donald and Melania] visiting Greece. It will be an incredible honor for the country," Kimberly Guilfoyle (Kimberly Guilfoyle) stated.
While the Prime Minister has yet to receive an official date, the Ambassador's confirmation has set the stage for what is expected to be a landmark visit in 2026.
Melania Trump: The Enigmatic "Transformative" First Lady
At the heart of the recent cultural-diplomatic buzz is Melania Trump (Melania Trump). The documentary “Melania,” directed by Brett Ratner (Brett Ratner), was presented at the Athens Center (Kentro Athinon) as a definitive look at the woman behind the public image.
Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle (Kimberly Guilfoyle) used the premiere to highlight the First Lady’s impact, calling her the "most transformative First Lady" in U.S. history.
-
Focus on Legacy: The film chronicles the 20 days leading up to the 2025 inauguration, portraying Melania as a dedicated mother, wife, and public servant.
-
Human Element: Guilfoyle described Melania as a "dear and beloved friend," noting that their families share close ties. This personal framing suggests that any upcoming visit will focus heavily on "soft power" and cultural connection.
By dismissing the need for a mediator now, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is positioning Greece as a confident, sovereign actor. Ahead of his planned meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) in Ankara before mid-February, the Prime Minister is leveraging Greece's "strategic friendship" with the U.S. to ensure that direct negotiations are conducted strictly on Greek terms and based on international law.
