The meeting was agreed during a telephone conversation Christodoulides had with Macron, according to Nicosia.
Christodoulides-Macron discussed developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and expressed their concern about any further destabilization "and deterioration of the situation in the region and discussed ways to de-escalate tension."
"The two leaders also discussed the project of the Great Sea Interconnector between Cyprus and Greece, in the context of the participation of a company of French interests. Both underlined the importance of this project of common interest in the realization of the European Union's energy objectives," Cypriot government spokesman Constantinos Letympiotis said.
During the discussion, reference was also made to the upcoming Med9 Leaders' Summit, which will take place in Pafos on October 11, and in which Emmanuel Macron will also participate.
