Speleologists found three lakes beneath Kifissos. The discovery was made by speleologists of the "Geomythic" team, who express concern about the impact on the statics of the area.

The discovery of a total of three lakes under Kifissos was made by members of the "Geomythical" team, which in previous years had identified two more.
The third - and largest - lake, as the team members explain in the video posted on YouTube, is located at the point of the confluence of the bed of Kifissos with the stream of Eschatia, at the height of the KTEO of Peristeri. In fact, in the murky waters there are even fish!
As shown in the footage they recorded, the lake was formed as at this point the bed was destroyed, for which they recorded that it was 5 cm thick. This lake even seems to have fish.
The first of the lakes was discovered by members of the same team, in 2021, at the height of the Perissos pedestrian bridge and Vikela Street in Patisia, right after the underground junction of Kifissos with Podoniftis.
Two years later, in 2023, the same team discovered a second lake under Kifissos at the height of Athinon Avenue after entering from the area of Rentis and after walking 3.5 kilometers down the National Road.
Now, another, even larger lake has been discovered, where even fish live, and speleologists are raising questions about the statics of the area.
"The issue of static is very serious and in our opinion we need to pump the water and make an assessment of the damage by engineers. The underground pipeline in this third lake is in the worst condition we have seen."
As the team mentions, the story began about eight years ago, as since 2017 it has been exploring the underground streams of Attica with the aim of both informing people about the issues of streams and floods and raising awareness of the competent bodies to act for the benefit of the environment and citizens.
