The Israeli army and the Shin Bet (General Security Service) have announced that Hamas leader and architect of the October 7 mass attack, Yahya Sinwar, is dead. In a joint statement, they say recent operations by the Israeli army and the Shin Bet limited Sinwar's area of operations, ultimately leading to his death.
Former U.S. President and current Republican White House candidate, Donald Trump, commented:
The death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is making peace in the Middle East "easier," said Donald Trump.
"I think it makes it easier," Trump said of the chances of peace in Gaza after Sinwar's death.
"I'm glad Bibi decided to do what he had to do," he said, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking to reporters on arrival in Detroit, Michigan, Trump added that Netanyahu was "doing a good job."
"Biden is trying to restrain him when he should probably be doing the opposite," he said, adding that he intended to speak with the Israeli prime minister soon.
